'20th Century Boy'(투웬티스 센춰리 보이)는 영국의 글램 록 밴드 T. Rex(티라노소어 렉스)가 부른 노래다. 곡은 밴드 창립자 마크 볼란(Marc Bolan)이 썼다. '20th Century Boy'는 독립적인 싱글로 발매되었다. 이 싱글은 1973년 3월 10일부터 영국 싱글 차트에서 3주 동안 3위를 달렸으며, 9주 동안 차트에 진입해 있었다.

'20th Century Boy'는 3월 초 동시에 발매된 앨범 'Tanx'(탄젠트)에는 수록되지 않았다. 하지만 1985년 'Tanx'의 재발매 이후에는 계속해서 보너스 트랙으로 수록되었다. 이 노래는 1991년 브래드 피트(Brad Pitt)의 리바이스(Levi's) TV 광고에 사용되면서 차트 역주행을 하여 영국 톱 20에서 최고 13위를 기록했다.

마크 볼란에 따르면 '20th Century Boy'의 가사는 무함마드 알리(Muhammad Ali) 같은 유명인의 인용문을 기반으로 한다. 이것은 알리의 1969년 연설 중 하나에서 발췌한 '벌처럼 날아서 쏜다'라는 가사를 통해서도 알 수 있다.

하지만 가사에 나오는 서정적인 가사들은 의미가 모호하다. 예를 들어 가사의 첫 구절 'Friends say it's fanem friends say it's good/Everybody says it's just like rock N' roll(친구들은 '괜찮아, 좋아'라고 밀히고/모든 사람들은 그게 꼭 로큰롤 같아)'을 보면 무슨 의미인지 모호하기 짝이 없다. 

 

Def Leppard - 20th Century Boy(Live RnR Hall Of Fame 2006)

 

영국의 하드 록 밴드 Def Leppard(데프 레퍼드)는 '20th Century Boy'를 커버해서 2006년 앨범 'Yeah!'에 수록했다. 데프 레퍼드는 이 곡을 2006년 8월 21일 세 번째이자 마지막 싱글로 발매했다. 미국 록 밴드 스캇 웨일랜드와 더 와일드어바웃(Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts)은 이 곡을 커버해서 2015년 앨범 'Blaster'(블래스트)에 수록했다. 웨일랜드는 이 트랙을 "클래식 글램 록 노래 가운데 가장 멋진 최신곡"이라고 극찬했다.
