'Blue Valentines'(블루 밸런타인즈)는 1978년 9월 5일 어사일럼 레코드(Asylum Records)에서 발매한 미국의 싱어송라이터 톰 웨이츠(Tom Waits)의 여섯 번째 스튜디오 앨범 'Blue Valentine'(블루 밸런타인) B면 5번 트랙 수록곡이다. 작곡도 웨이츠 자신이 했다. 러닝 타임은 5분 49초로 다소 긴 곡이다. 곡목은 '우울한 밸런타인 데이' 정도의 뜻이 되겠다.

톰 웨이츠는 뒤틀린 로맨스를 좋아하는 성향이 있었다. 그런 그의 음악적 성향은 앨범 'Blue Valentine'에서 절정에 이른다. 이 음반에 담긴 비극적인 사랑 이야기는 듣는 이로 하여금 더없이 달콤하고 행복한 비탄으로 빠져들게 한다. 웨이츠는 뮤지컬 'West Side Story'(웨스트 사이드 스토리)의 'Somewhere'(섬훼어)를 커버한 1번 트랙, 경쾌함이 묻어나는 4번 트랙 'Romeo Is Bleeding'(로미오 이즈 블리딩) 등을 통해 사회 밑바닥에서 살아가는 사람들의 불운하지만 마법과도 같은 사랑 이야기를 들려준다.

앨범 'Blue Valentine' 수록곡 중에서도 단연 최고의 작품은 바로 마지막 트랙 'Blue Valentines'이다. 고적하게 흐르는 간주 부분의 재즈 기타 선율은 레이 크로포드(Wray Crawford)의 연주다. 가사는 지독하게 엇갈린 사랑에 대한 이야기다. 가사의 주인공은 자신의 역할이 'burglar that can break the rose’s neck(장미의 목을 부러뜨릴 수 있는 강도)'라며 탄식하고 있다. 제목만큼이나 우울한 노래다.
