'Cannonball'(캐넌볼)은 1993년 미국의 얼터너티브 록 밴드 브리더즈(The Breeders)가 발매한 2집 앨범 'Last Splash'(래스트 스플래쉬)의 2번 트랙 수록곡이다. 이 노래는 1993년 8월 9일 싱글로 발매되어 미국 빌보드 핫 100 차트에서 44위, 영국 싱글 차트에서 40위에 올랐다. 1993년 11월 출시된 프랑스에서는 30주 동안 차트에 머물며 8위를 기록했다.

 

브리더즈(2008)

브리더즈는 얼터너티브 록 밴드 픽시즈(Pixies)의 싱어송라이터이자 베이시스트 킴 딜(Kim Deal)과 얼터너티브 록 밴드 스로잉 뮤지스(Throwing Muses)의 싱어송라이타이자 기타리스트 타냐 도넬리(Tanya Donelly)의 사이드 프로젝트로 결성되었다. 타냐 도넬리는 앨범 'Last Splash'가 발매되기 전에 떠났으며, 그 자리에는 킴 딜의 쌍둥이 자매 켈리 딜(Kelley Deal)이 들어왔다. 켈리 딜은 브리더즈에서 리드 기타와 보컬을 담당했다.

'Cannoball'은 삐딱한 훅, 악을 쓰는 오디오 피드백, 하모니카 연주 사이로 소리치는 코러스, 거짓 엔딩들, 음습하게 허밍한 배킹 하모니 연주, 미끄러지는 베이스라인, 전진과 정지를 반복하는 비트 등을 특징으로 한다. 킴 딜이 사드 후작(Marquis de Sade)의 수필을 정교하게 빗대 패러디한 가사도 연주와 비슷하게 나른함을 자아낸다.,

록 밴드 소닉 유스(Sonic Youth)의 여제 킴 고든(Kim Gordon)과 프로듀서 스파이크 존즈(Spike Jonze)가 공동으로 감독한 뮤직 비디오 'Cannoball'은 딜 자매를 얼터너티브 록계의 매력녀로 재탄생시켰다. 이 곡은 라디오 전파를 타기 시작하면서 성공 가도를 달렸다. 이런 성공에 힘입어 앨범 'Last Splash'는 플래티넘 기록을 달성했다. 'Cannoball'은 NME가 선정한 역대 최고 인디 앤섬 50선(50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever)에 선정되었다.
