'Ball of Confusion'은 미국 보컬 그룹 템프테이션스(The Temptations)가 1970년에 히트시킨 싱글이다. 이 노래는 작곡가 겸 프로듀서 노먼 휫필드(Norman Whitfield)와 싱어송라이터 배렛 스트롱(Barrett Strong)이 작곡했다. 템프테이션스의 멤버는 데니스 에드워즈(Dennis Edwards), 에디 켄드릭스(Eddie Kendricks), 폴 윌리엄스(Paul Williams), 멜빈 프랭클린(Melvin Franklin), 오티스 윌리엄스(Otis Williams) 등 5명이다.

연주를 담당한 펑크 브러더스(The Funk Brothers)는 거의 11분 길이의 백킹 트랙을 녹음했지만 템프테이션스 버전의 노래에는 4분이 조금 넘게 사용되었다. 전체 백킹 트랙은 1971년 LP 'The Undisputed Truth'(디 언디스퓨티드 트루쓰)에서 들을 수 있다. 반주 트랙은 가사가 쓰여지기 전, 3시간에 걸친 단 한 번의 녹음 세션으로 완성되었다.
사이키델릭 소울 'Ball of Confusion'의 가사는 인종 차별, 이중 인격적인 정치가들, 약물 남용, 난폭한 소요 사태, 쌓여가는 청구서, 전쟁 등 강한 정치색을 띠고 있다. 템프테이션스 멤버 가운데 데니스 에드워즈는 좀 더 어려운 가사를 담당했다. 이들 보컬을 펑크 브라더스 밥 배빗(Bob Babbitt)의 베이스라인이 강하게 떠받친다. 그리고, 펑키(funky)한 금관과 울부짖는 하모니카 사운드가 여기저기 배치되어 있다. 마지막 코러스 부분에서는 하모니가 한데 어우러지면서 피날레를 장식한다.
