'Atomic Dog'(어토믹 독)은 1982년 미국의 싱어송라이터 조지 클린턴(George Clinton)이 발표한 앨범 'Computer Games(컴퓨터 게임스) 5번 트랙 수록곡이다. 이 트랙은 1982년 12월 싱글로 커트되어 발매되었다. 'Atomic Dog'은 팔러먼트-펑카델릭(Parliament-Funkadelic, P-Funk)의 마지막 미국 R & B 차트 1위 곡이기도 하다. 그럼에도 이 싱글은 빌보드 핫 100 차트에는 진입하지 못했다. 하지만 그후 이 노래는 여러 힙합 노래에서 샘플링되었다.
'Atomic Dog'은 현재 흑인 대중 음악의 고전으로 여겨지지만, 당시에는 라디오 방송국 금지곡이었다. 마약 중독자였던 조지 클린턴의 평판은 음반 업계에서 매우 좋지 않았다. 또, 이전 앨범에서 보여준 정치적 의식도 클린턴의 노래가 방송국에서 유포되는 것을 막았다. 1982년 12월 싱글 'Atomic Dog'이 R & B 차트에서 1 위에 오른 뒤에야 방송 금지가 풀렸다.

'Atomic Dog'의 뮤직 비디오는 빌보드 비디오 뮤직 어워드에서 최우수 특수효과 부문과 최우수 아트 디렉션 부문 등 2개 부문 후보에 지명되었다. 하지만 빌리 조엘(Billy Joel)의 'Pressure'(프레셔)와 허비 행콕(Herbie Hancock)의 'Rockit'(라킷)에게 각각 밀려 수상에는 실패했다.

피-펑크(P-Funk)의 프론트맨 조지 클린턴은 1980년대에 들어서자 두 그룹을 해체하고 솔로 활동을 선언한다. 마약 중독으로 인해 편집 증세를 보이던 클린턴은 녹음 세션에서 엔지니어들이 자기 몰래 트랙을 편집하고 있다고 생각했다. 클린턴은 엔지니어들이 만들어놓은 괴이한 역행 드럼 트랙에 보컬을 얹겠다고 고집을 부렸다. 개를 주제로 애드 리브를 시도하던 그는, 맞는 키를 찾기 위해 가사를 줄줄이 늘어놓았다. 그래서, 역행 드럼 트랙 위에 다시 본래의 드럼 트랙을 믹스하고, 여기에 키보드 주자 버니 워를(Bernie Worrell)이 펑키(funky)한 멜로디를 더해서 급조한 트랙이 바로 'Atomic Dog'이었다.

'Atomic Dog' 가사는 이후 모든 래퍼들에게 영향을 미치는 중요한 존재가 되었다.아이스 큐브(Ice Cube, O'Shea Jackson)는 이 트랙을 7번이나 사용했다. 또, 클린턴은 스눕 독(Snoop Dogg, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr.)의 오마주인 'Who Am I(What’s My Name)'가 만들어지던 닥터 드레(Dr. Dre, Andre Romelle Young)의 스튜디오 현장에 있었다. 이 곡은 미국 드라머 ‘The Wire’(더 와이어), 영화 ‘Menace II Society’(사회에의 위협, 1993), ‘Rugrats Go Wild’(무인도 대모험, 2003) 등의 사운드트랙에도 삽입되었다.
