'Buffalo Gals'(버펄로 갤스)는 1982년 영국의 시각 예술가이자 공연가, 음악가, 의상 디자이너 맬컴 맥라렌(Malcolm McLaren)과 미국 힙합 그룹 월즈 페이머스 슈프림 팀(the World's Famous Supreme Team)이 발매한 힙합 싱글이다. 'Gal'은 비격식 미국 영어에서 '처녀, 여자'를 뜻하는 말이다.
'Buffalo Gals'는 1983년 맬컴 맥라렌의 앨범 'Duck Rock'(덕 락)의 2번 트랙에 수록되었다. 노래는 스퀘어 댄스(Square dance)의 외침과 함께 광범위한 레코드 스크래칭으로 구성되어 있다. 뮤직 비디오에는 미국 힙합 그룹 락 스테디 크루(Rock Steady Crew)도 등장한다.
뉴욕에서 밴드 바우 와우 와우(Bow Wow Wow)에 대한 지원을 모색하는 동안 맥라렌은 미국 디제이이자 래퍼 아프리카 밤바타(Afrika Bambaataa)와 국제적인 힙합 그룹 유니버설 줄루 네이션(Universal Zulu Nation)의 야외 콘서트 'Block Party'(블락 파티)에 갔다가 'Buffalo Gals'에 대한 아이디어를 얻었다. 여기서 그는 힙합을 처음으로 접하고, 노래에서 사용할 스크래칭 기법을 발견했다. 대부분의 스크래칭과 비트는 영국 음악 프로듀서 트레버 혼(Trevor Horn)이 작곡했다.
'Buffalo Gals'는 전통적인 컨트리 댄스 송과 힙합 스크래칭 테크닉의 조합으로 이루어진 노래다. 맥라렌은 스퀘어 댄스를 지도하는 한편 월즈 페이머스 수프림 팀의 스크래칭과 비트, 그리고 샘플들을 조합해서 어색한 듯하면서도 중독성 강한 힙합 송을 만들어 냈다. 이 노래는 곧 영국 싱글 차트 톱 10에 오르는 대성공을 거두었다.

'Buffalo Gals'는 미국 민요다. 1844년 흑인분장 공연자 존 호지스(John Hodges)가 작곡하고 루를리 팬(Lubly Fan)이라는 이름으로 출판했다. 공연자들은 각 지역 관중들에게 어필하기 위해 '버팔로 소녀'를 뉴욕에서는 '뉴욕 소녀', 보스턴에서는 '보스턴 소녀', 앨라배마에서는 '앨라배마 소녀'라고 바꿔 불렀다. 이 노래는 빙 크로스비 주연 영화 '딕시(Dixie, 1943)', 1948년 제임스 스튜어트 주연 영화 '이츠 어 원더풀 라이프(It's a Wonderful Life)', 게리 쿠퍼와 그레이스 켈리 주연의 1952년 영화 '하이 눈(High Noon)' 사운드 트랙에 사입되었다.
