'Court of the Crimson King'(코트 오브 더 크림슨 킹)은 영국의 프로그레시브 록 밴드 킹 크림슨(King Crimson)의 데뷔 앨범 'In Court of the Crimson King'(인 코트 오브 더 크림슨 킹)의 다섯 번째이자 마지막 트랙이다. '크림슨 킹'은 미국의 범죄 추리 작가 스티븐 킹(Stephen King)이 창조한 가상의 캐릭터다. 

 

싱글 'Court of the Crimson King' 표지

'Court of the Crimson King'은 싱글로도 발매되어 빌보드 핫 100 차트에서 80위에 올랐다. 정작 영국에서는 싱글 차트에 진입하지 못했다. 녹음 작업에는 로버트 프립(Robert Fripp, 기타), 그렉 레이크(Greg Lake, 리드 보컬, 베이스 기타), 이안 맥도널드(Ian McDonald, 멜로트론, 하프시코드, 오건, 플루트), 마이클 자일스(Michael Giles, 드럼) 등이 공식 라인업으로 참여했다. 이 노래는 이안 맥도널드와 피터 신필드(Peter Sinfield)가 공동으로 작곡했고, 신필드가 가사를 썼다. 러닝 타임이 9분 26초에 이르는 대곡이다.

'Court of the Crimson King' 트랙은 미국 작곡가이자 피아니스트, 바리톤 사무엘 바버(Samuel Barber)의 'Essay for Orchestra'(에세이 포 오키스트러, 1938)에 등장하는 멜로트론 연주를 각색한 뚜렷한 리프가 주조를 이룬다. 노래의 주요 부분은 'The Return of the Fire Witch'(더 리턴 오브 더 파이어 위치, 불 마녀의 귀환)라는 4개의 기악 섹션으로 나누어진 스탠자(stanza, 연)로 구성되어 있다. 노래는 7분 정도에서 절정에 이른다. 이어 'The Dance of the Puppets'(더 댄스 오브 더 퍼피츠, 인형의 춤)라 불리는 짧은 악절이 반복되다가 갑자기 프리 타임 스케일로 끝난다.
