'Please Read the Letter(플리즈 리드 더 레터)'는 원래 1998년 4월 20일 발매된 전설적인 UK 롹 밴드 레드 제플린(Led Zeppelin)의 기타리스트 지미 페이지(Jimmy Page)와 프론트맨 로버트 플랜트(Robert Plant) 듀오의 유일한 앨범 'Walking into Clarksdale(워킹 인투 클라크스데일)' 5번 트랙이다. 페이지와 플랜트(Page and Plant) 듀오는 1994년부터 1998년까지 활동했다.

'Please Read the Letter(편지를 읽어주세요)'의 녹음 세션에는 페이지(리드 기타)와 플랜트(보컬), 찰리 존스(Charlie Jones, 베이스 기타), 마이클 리(Michael Lee, 드럼) 등 4명이 공식 라인업으로 참여했다. 곡도 라인업 4명이 공동으로 썼다. 장르는 포크 롹(Folk rock), 러닝 타임은 4분 21초다.

'Please Read the Letter'의 가사에 대해 플랜트는 "이 곡은 누군가에 대한 그리움을 담은 노래이며, 아직 끝나지 않은 일에 대한 이야기를 담고 있다."고 말한 바 있다. 플랜트는 엔터테인먼트 위클리에 "이건 간절한 동경의 노래다. 이 노래에는 로큰롤적 성격이 전혀 없다. 곡의 내면에는 상처받기 쉬운 면모가 자리하고 있다. 이 곡은 아직 매듭 짓지 못한 두 사람 사이에 관한 것이다."라고 말했다.

2007년 10월 플랜트와 블루그래스 컨트리 가수이자 피들러(fiddler) 앨리슨 크라우스(Alison Krauss)는 공동 앨범 'Raising Sand(레이징 샌드)'를 위해 'Please Read the Letter'를 듀엣으로 녹음했다. 듀엣 버전은 2008년 공동 앨범에서 싱글로 커트되어 나왔다.

싱글 'Please Read the Letter'는 발매 당시 차트에는 진입하지 못했다. 하지만, 비평가들의 호평을 받으면서 2009 그래미 어워드에서 올해의 레코드 부문상을 받은 후 US 빌보드 버블링 언더 핫 100(Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100) 차트에서 20위에 올랐다. UK 싱글 차트에서는 102위를 차지했다.
