죽기 전에 꼭 들어야 할 팝송 17 - Motorhead(모터헤드)의 'Ace of Spades'(에이스 오브 스페이즈)

'에이스 오브 스페이즈(Ace of Spades)'는 1980년 11월 8일 브론즈 레코드( Bronze Records)가 발매한 영국 헤비 메틀 밴드 모터헤드(Motörhead)의 4번째 스튜디오 앨범의 1번 트랙에 수록돤 타이틀 곡이다. 작곡, 작사는 모터헤드 멤버들이 했다. 공식 라인업은 레미 킬미스터(Lemmy  Kilmister, 보컬, 베이스), '패스트' 에디 클라크('Fast' Eddie Clarke, 리드 기타), 필 '필시 애니멀' 테일러(Phil 'Philthy Animal' Taylor, 드럼) 등 3명이다.

'Ace of Spades'는 1980년 10월 앨범에서 싱글로 커트되어 발매되자마자 영국 싱글 차트 15위에 올랐으며, 이후 13주 동안 차트에 진입해 있었다. 이 노래는 공격적이고 현란한 사운드, 허스키한 보컬이 강렬하게 질주하는 슬래쉬 메틀이다. 세계적인 슬래쉬 메틀 밴드 메탈리카(Metallica) 같은 그룹들에 많은 영향을 준 곡이기도 하다.

2015년 12월 28일 프론트맨 레미 킬미스터가 사망하면서 밴드가 해체되자 'Ace of Spades'는 차트를 역주행해서 13위에 올랐으며, 2016년 1월에는 9위까지 올라갔다. 2016년 1월 9일 영국 락 & 메틀 싱글 & 앨범 차트에서는 1위를 차지했다.

노래는 레미가 연주하는 오버드라이브 베이스 인트로로 시작된다. 강렬한 베이스 인트로가 인상적인 곡이다. 가사는 대부분 카드와 주사위 등을 통해서 도박을 은유적으로 표현했다.
