'Give It Away'(기브 잇 어웨이)는 미국 롹 밴드 레드 핫 칠리 페퍼스(Red Hot Chili Peppers)의 다섯 번째 스튜디오 앨범 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'(블러드 슈거 섹스 매직)의 9번 트랙 수록곡이다. 이 노래는 1991년 9월 4일 앨범의 리드 싱글로 커트되어 발매되었다. 곡목 'Give It Away'는 '그만두다'의 뜻도 있는데, 여기서는 '다 줘 버려' 정도의 뜻이 되겠다.
'Give It Away'의 녹음 세션에는 앤서니 키디스(Anthony Kiedis , 보컬), 플리(Flea, 베이스 기타), 존 프루시안테(John Frusciante, 리드 & 리듬 기타), 채드 스미스(Chad Smith, 드럼, 탬버린) 등이 공식 라인업으로 참여했다. 브렌던 오브라이언(Brendan O'Brien, 해먼드 B3 오르간)과 피트 와이스(Pete Weiss, 주즈 하프)는 객원 연주자로 참여했다. 'flea'는 '벼룩'이라는 뜻이다.
'Give It Away'는 앨범 녹음 세션 몇 달 전 잼 세션(jam session) 도중 기타리스트 존 프루시안테와 베이시스트 '벼룩'이 공동으로 작곡했다. 노래를 처음 들으면 'What I got you gotta get and put it in ya(내가 가진 걸 네 안에 집어넣어)'에서 보듯이 그저 단순히 섹스에 관한 노래인 것처럼 들린다. 하지만 보컬리스트 앤서니 키디스는 여자친구인 독일 싱어 니나 하겐(Nina Hagen)의 욕심이 없고 이타적이며 관대한 행동에서 영감을 받아 'Give it away'(다 줘 버려)라는 후렴구를 썼다.
'Give It Away'는 국제적인 히트를 기록했다. 이 노래는 1991년 후반 빌보드 모던 록 트랙 차트에서 1위에 올랐다. 1992년에는 두 번째 싱글 'Under Bridge'(언더 브리지)의 스매쉬 히트에 뒤이어 미국 빌보드 핫 100 차트에서 75위 안에 들었다. 영국 싱글 차트에서는 9위에 올랐다.
'Give It Away'의 뮤직 비디오는 프랑스 영화 제작자 스테판 세드나위(Stéphane Sednaoui)가 감독했다. 뮤비는 은색 바디 페인팅과 반짝이는 바지를 입은 그룹이 사막에서 춤을 추면서 노래하는 장면을 보여 준다. 뮤비가 MTV 같은 음악 텔레비전 방송국에서 대대적인 전파를 타면서 이 노래는 더욱 유명해졌다. 'Give It Away'는 1992년 그래미 어워드에서 최우수 하드롹 보컬 퍼포먼스 부문상을 받았다.
