'This Corrosion(디스 커로우즌)'은 1987년 11월 16일 발매된 UK 롹 밴드 시스터스 오브 머시(Sisters of Mercy)의 두 번째 스튜디오 앨범 'Floodland(플러드랜드)' B면 1번 트랙 수록곡이다. 이 트랙은 1987년 9월 21일 앨범보다 먼저 리드 싱글로 커트되어 나왔다. 밴드의 가장 유명한 노래 중 하나다. 'Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me(자 이제, 자 이제, 이 부식(腐蝕)의 노래를 나에게 불러줘)' 구절은 밴드가 공연할 때 관중들의 떼창을 유발하는 중독성 있는 코러스다.

'This Corrosion'의 녹음 세션에는 앤드루 엘드리치(Andrew Eldritch, 리드 보컬, 기타, 베이스 기타, 키보드), 퍼트리샤 모리슨(Patricia Morrison, 백 보컬), 닥터 애벌란치(Doktor Avalanche, 드럼 머쉰) 등 밴드 멤버 2명이 공식 라인업으로 참여했다. 닥터 애벌란치는 드럼 머쉰이다. 에디 마르티네즈(Eddie Martinez, 기타), 뉴 요크 코럴 소사이어티(New York Choral Society, 코럴 보컬)는 객원 연주자로 참여했다. 음악은 프론트맨 엘드리치가 작곡했고, 가사도 엘드리치가 썼으며, 음반은 작사가/프로듀서 짐 스타인먼(Jim Steinman)이 제작했다. 장르는 가씩 롹(Gothic rock), 인더스리얼 롹(industrial rock)이다. 러닝 타임은 11분 21초(CD), 9분 31초(LP), 8분 37초(12" single), 4분 27초(7" single), 5분 16초(cassette), 3분 59초(cassette) 등 다양하다.

가사는 엘드리치의 이전 밴드 멤버들이 시스터 오브 머시를 떠나 가식 롹 밴드 미션(Mission)을 결성하는 것에 관한 것이다. 당시 내성적인 인물 엘드리치는 자신의 밴드에게 붙여진 '가식 롹'이란 꼬리표를 너무나 싫어했던 나머지 이 장르에서 벗어나기 위해 몸부림을 치고 있던 중이었다. 미션의 리드 보컬 웨인 허시(Wayne Hussey)는 한때 시스터 오브 머시의 기타리스트였다. 'This Corrosion'의 가사는 허시의 스타일을 패러디한 것이다.

팝 평론가 로버트 다이머리(Robert Dimery)는 "프론트맨 엘드리치와 프로듀서 스타인먼은 함께 머리를 짜 매우 교묘하고도 효과적인 녹음 아이디어를 생각해냈다. 그것은 뉴욕 코럴 소사어티의 녹음 세션에 멀티 트랙 녹음방식을 적용해 몇십 명의 싱어들을 몇백 명과 같이 들리게 하자는 것이었다. 그로 인해 생성된 바그너풍 결과물을 일렉트로닉 팝송 위에 단단히 동여매었다. 데모 자체도 이미 9분 가량에 이르렀던 이 곡은 뉴 오더 같으면서도 동시에 애덤스 패밀리를 연상시키는 것이었다. 모호한 가사는 기타리스트 제리 웨인 허시(Jerry Wayne Hussey)가 그룹을 떠난 것에서 영감을 받아 썼다."고 평했다.

'This Corrosion'은 UK 싱글 차트에서 7위를 차지했다. 또, 아일랜드 차트 6위에 이어 독일 차트에서는 17위에 올랐다. 이 트랙은 2013년 SF 코미디 영화 'The World's End(지구가 끝장 나는 날)' 사운드트랙에 수록되었다. 사이먼 페그(Simon Pegg)는 1980년대 40대 초반의 가쓰(goth)/올터너티브 롹(alternative rock) 팬인 개리 킹(Gary King) 역을 맡아 엘드리치 스타일로 연기했다. 이 노래는 영화 중간에 한 번, 마지막 크레딧이 올라갈 때 흘러나온다. 러닝 타임 4분 27초짜리 7인치 버전/싱글 편집 버전은 영화 사운드트랙에 수록되어 있다.
