죽기 전에 꼭 들어야 할 팝송 31 - Love의 'Alone Again Or'

'Alone Again Or'(얼론 어게인 오어)는 1967년 미국 사이키델릭 록 밴드 러브(Love)가 취입한 노래다. 작곡은 밴드 멤버 브라이언 매클린( Bryan MacLean)이 했다. 이 곡은 러브의 세 번째 스튜디오 앨범 'Forever Changes'(퍼레버 체인지스)에 수록되어 미국과 영국, 호주, 프랑스, 네덜란드에서 출시되었다. 노래 제목은 '또 다시 외로움이' 정도의 뜻이 되겠다. 'or'는 밴드 리더 아서 리(Arthur Lee)가 추가해 넣은 것으로 별 뜻은 없다. 제멋대로 그냥 붙인 것이다.

'Alone Again Or'는 UFO(1977), Damned(1986), Sarah Brightman(1990), The Boo Radleys(1991), the Oblivians(1993), Chris Pérez Band(1999), Calexico(2004), Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs(2006), Les Fradkin(2007), Sara Lov(2014) 등 다양한 아티스트들에 의해 커버되었다. 브라이언 매클린의 데모 버전 2개는 1997년 그의 첫 솔로 앨범 'Ifyoubelievein'(이프유빌리브인)에 수록되었다.

 

Love - Alone Again Or(2015 Remaster)  

 

'Alone Again Or'는 1968년 싱글로 발매되었다. 가사는 여자친구를 기다리던 매클린의 추억에서 영감을 받았다. 이 노래의 특징은 곡의 긍정성과 'And I will be alone again tonight, my dear(그리고 자기, 오늘밤 난 다시 혼자가 될 거야)에서 보듯이 암울한 가사가 대조적이다.

사이키델릭의 고전이라는 평가를 받고 있는 'Alone Again Or'는 1996년 영화 'Bottle Rocket'(바틀 로킷)과 컬트 고전 'Sleepers'(슬리퍼스)의 사운드 트랙에 삽입되었다. 이 노래는 또 2009년 영국 코미디 영화 'Bunny and the Bull'(버니 앤드 더 불)의 사운드 트랙에도 삽입되었다.
