'Sally MacLennane(샐리 맥레넌)'은 1985년 8월 5일 발매된 UK & 앵글로 아일랜드 켈틱 펑크(Celtic punk) 밴드 포그스(The Pogues)의 두 번째 스튜디오 앨범 'Rum, Sodomy & the Lash(럼, 소더미 앤 더 래쉬) A면 6번 트랙 수록곡이다. 이 트랙은 그해 싱글로도 커트되어 나왔다. 장르는 켈틱 펑크, 러닝 타임은 2분 43초다.

'Sally MacLennane'은 여자 이름이 아니라 아일랜드 스타우트(Stout, 흑맥주) 스타일의 맥주 이름이다. 켈트 펑크(Celtic punk)는 펑크 롹(Punk Rock)에 백파이프(bagpipe), 밴조(banjo), 만돌린(mandolin), 틴 휘슬(tin whistle) 등의 악기를 도입하여 켈트족(Irish)의 민족적 색채가 가미된 음악이다.

'Sally MacLennane'의 녹음 세션에는 아일랜드계 UK 싱어송라이터이자 프론트맨 셰인 맥고완(Shane MacGowan, 보컬), 스파이더 스테이시(Spider Stacy, 틴 휘슬), 제임스 펀리(James Fearnley, 아코디언), 젬 피너(Jem Finer, 밴조), 케이트 오리어던(Cait O'Riordan, 베이스 기타), 앤드루 랭켄(Andrew Ranken, 드럼), 필립 셰브론(Philip Chevron, 기타) 등 밴드 멤버 7명이 공식 라인업으로 참여했다. 헨리 베나(Henry Benagh, 피들), 딕 커델(Dick Cuthell. 호른), 토미 킨(Tommy Keane, 일리언 파이프)은 객원 연주자로 참여했다. 노래는 밴드 리더 맥고완이 작곡했고, UK 싱어송라이터 겸 프로듀서 엘비스 코스텔로(Elvis Costello)가 제작했다. 제작자 코스텔로는 이 싱글 작업을 하다가 눈이 맞은 베이시스트 오리어던과 1986년에 결혼했다.

'Sally MacLennane'은 포그스의 UK 톱 100 차트 진입 2번째 싱글로서 전형적인 음주(飮酒, Drinking) 앤섬(Anthem)이다. 이 노래는 포드 자동차 런던 대거넘(Dagenham) 공장 아일랜드 노동자 단골이 많았던 바에서 영감을 받았다. 이 바의 사장은 맥고완의 삼촌이었다. 스토리의 주인공은 하모니카를 부는 지미와 동네 술집의 다양한 인물들이다. 가사에는 'to the greatest little boozer and to Sally Maclennane(가장 위대한 이 작은 술집과 샐리 맥레넌)'을 향한 건배사가 담겨 있다.

팝 칼럼니스트 로버트 다이머리(Robert Dimery)는 "이 노래는 맥주잔 바닥을 통해 본 노동자의 생활상을 그린다. 떠들썩하지만 한편으로는 아련한 비참함을 느낄 수 있을 것이다. 가공되지 않은 다이아몬드와 같은 보컬을 통해, 맥고완은 즐거움에 빠진 지나친 탐닉이 가져올 수 있는 죽음에 대한 교훈적 이야기를 풀어놓는다... 어쿠스틱 기타와 밴조, 아코디언, 틴 휘슬, 스탠드 업 드러밍이 이루는 장관을 배경으로 '대단히 신 나긴(it rocks) 하지만, 롹 음악은 아닌(not really rock music)' 포그스 전형의 예술성이 유감없이 드러나는 노래이다.
