'Dear Prudence'(디어 프루던스)는 영국 록 밴드 비틀즈가 1968년에 낸 더블 앨범 'The Beatles'(더 비틀즈)에 수록된 곡이다. 이 더블 앨범은 'The White Album'(더 화이트 앨범)으로도 알려져 있다. 이 노래는 존 레논(John Lennon)이 작곡했지만 크레딧에는 레논-매카트니(Lennon-McCartney)로 올라가 있다.

'Dear Prudence'는 비틀즈가 1968년 초 인도 를 여행하는 동안 세계 요가 수도라고 일려진 히말라야 산맥 기슭의 리시께시(Rishikesh)에서 쓰여졌다. 이 곡은 여배우 미아 패로(Mia Farrow)의 여동생 프루던스 패로(Prudence Farrow)가 비틀즈의 정신적 스승 마하리쉬 마헤시 요기(Maharishi Mahesh Yogi)와 함께 수련하면서 명상에 집착하게 된 것에서 영감을 받았다. 명상 캠프에 참여한 존 레논과 조지 해리슨(George Harrison)은 프루던스 패로를 은둔에서 벗어나게 하려고 시도했고, 결국 레논이 이 노래를 작곡하게 되었다.

레논은 스코틀랜드 싱어송라이터 도노반(Donovan)에게 배운 핑거피킹(finger-picking) 기타 테크닉을 사용하여 'Dear Prudence'를 작곡했다. 'The sun is up, the sky is blue/It's beautiful and so are you(태양은 떠오르고, 하늘은 푸르러요/당신 또한 아름다워요)'처럼 가사는 단순하고 천진한 자연과 프루던스의 아름다움을 찬양한다. 레논은 프루던스에게 'open up your eyes(눈을 뜨고)' 'see the sunny skies(화창한 하늘을 바라봐요)' 라고 요청하면서 'you are part of everything(당신은 모든 것 즉 자연의 일부)'임을 상기시킨다.

'Dear Prudence'의 가사와 밴드의 연주는 음악 평론가들로부터 찬사를 받았다. 레논은 이 곡을 비틀즈가 가장 좋아하는 노래 중 하나라고 말했다. 록 그룹 제리 가르시아 밴드(Jerry Garcia Band), 피아니스트 램지 루이스(Ramsey Lewis), 영국 록 밴드 수지 앤 더 밴시스(Siouxsie & the Banshees)를 포함한 많은 아티스트가 이 노래를 커버했다.

수지 앤 더 밴시스 버전은 비틀즈의 오리지널 송에 충실하면서도 로버트 스미스(Robert Smith)의 사이키델릭한 기타 사운드와 수지 수(Siouxsie Sioux)의 기분 좋은 보컬을 통해 본래의 우울한 분위기를 축하의 상승 무드로 끌어올렸다. 이 버전은 1983년 영국 차트에서 5위를 기록했다.
