'Les copains d'abord'(레 코팡 다보흐)는 프랑스 최고의 샹소니에(chansonnier)라고 일컬어지는 싱어송라이터 조르주 브라상(Georges Brassens)이 1964년에 발매한 동명의 앨범 타이틀 곡이다. 자신의 어쿠스틱 기타 반주에 부드럽고 절제된 바리톤 목소리로 자작곡을 부르곤 했던 브라상은 프랑스인들에게 '조르주 삼촌', '국민 테디 베어'라는 애칭으로 불리며 프랑스의 국민 작곡가, 국민 가수로 존경받고 있다. 미국 문화의 영향을 많이 받은 한국인들은 브라상을 잘 모를 수도 있다.

곡목 'Les copains d'abord'는 '동무가 먼저(죠)', '친구가 우선(이죠)' 정도의 뜻이 되겠다. 프랑스어를 잘 모르는 사람도 가사의 연과 행이 일정하고, 각 연의 마지막 행마다 'Les copains d'abord'이 반복되는 것을 보면, 이 노래가 한 편의 시라는 것을 눈치챌 수 있다. 일정한 글자 수와 같은 단어 또는 구절을 반복하면 시적 운률(韻律)이 발생한다.

'Les copains d'abord'는 사실 발음이 같은 'copains de bord'(동료 선원)라는 말을 가지고 장난친 것이다. 노래의 멜로디는 저절로 흥얼거리게 될 정도로 흥겹다. 하지만, 가사는 어렵다. 브라상 자신이 매우 박식했던 탓이다. 'Par Montaigne et La Boétie'(몽떼뉴와 라 보에띠의 작품)나 'Au moindre coup de Trafalgar'(트라팔가의 가장 작은 샷)처럼 프랑스 역사 나아가 유럽 역사와 문학을 알아야 하는 가사도 있다.

'De la Méduse, ce bateau'(매두사의 검은 배)나 'Sodome et Gomorrhe'(소돔과 고모라), 'Jean, Pierre, Paul et compagnie'(요한, 베드로, 바울과 동료들), 'Leur Credo, leur Confiteor'(그들의 사도신경, 그들의 고해기도) 등 그리스 신화, 신약 복음서에 나오는 내용도 있다. 'Des petits Castor et Pollux'(응석받이 카스토르와 풀룩스는 아니죠)와 'C'est elle qui leur montrait le nord'(북극성을 일러주는 것도 우정이었죠)에는 별자리 이름도 나온다. 프랑스 파리의 라틴어 구호 'Fluctuat nec mergitur'(파도에 흔들릴지언정 가라앉지 않는다)도 등장한다.

브라상은 'Les copains d'abord'를 이브 로베르(Yves Robert) 감독, 필립 누와레(Philippe Noiret) 주연의 1964년 영화 'Les Copains'(레 코팡, 친구)의 사운드트랙을 위해 작곡했다. 이 곡은 영화와 같은 해 발매된 브라상의 앨범 타이틀 트랙으로 수록되었다.
